mummify contraceptive: NFL commissioner says 2013 game could be last Pro Bowl in Hawaii

The National Football League is making noise again about the possibility of cancelling the Pro Bowl in Hawaii.

The Associated Press reports that NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell is saying the 2013 game scheduled for Jan. 27 could be the league?s last all-star game.

The game pits most of the American Football Conference?s best players against the top players from the National Football Conference. It is scheduled for a week before the Super Bowl is played in New Orleans.

Goodell is repeating his previous threats to take away Hawaii?s highest profile pro sports event. He said during a recent interview on SiriusXM NFL Radio?s ?Town Hall? that the game could be cancelled if players don?t show more of an effort. Afterall, the final score for the 2012 game seemed more like an Arena Football League game. The AFC defeated the NFC by a final score of 59-41.

Fans reportedly booed in the stands, but they showed up. And they also showed up in droves to watch the teams practice and for other NFL Pro Bowl events around Oahu.

I remember seeing fans clamoring for New Orleans Saints quarterback Drew Brees? autograph after the NFC?s practice. I grew up in an NFL town and have lived in three other NFL towns, and I don?t remember getting excited about going to see the local team practice like the fans here in Hawaii. That?s because the fans don?t get that kind of exposure to the players during the regular season.

Hawaii is serious enough about wanting to keep the game, which generated more than $25 million for the local economy, that it is willing to keep paying the NFL $4 million a year to host it. The Hawaii Tourism Authority also recently formed a committee to address several issues with the game, not including making the game itself better.
