On Monday night, the city of Dallas and Southwest Airlines hosted a dinner event to celebrate the imminent opening of 12 gates in the new Dallas Love Field concourse.

We were there, and we?ll share some photos.

Above is a circular sculpture, Sky, that hangs above the center node of the new concourse. Look closely and you?ll see all kind of creatures and things represented in the circle: birds, balloons, stars and who knows what.

The sculpture was created by Brower Hatcher and Marly Rogers of Mid-Ocean Studio in?Providence, R.I.?The fiberglass structure has aluminum figures and LED lighting.

Tech-savvy travelers will notice the AC outlets and USB ports stationed between every two seats in the gate areas. Power up your computer, power up your cellphone.

In addition to functionality, the new concourse seeks to incorporate some beauty. You?ll note the panel of tile work on the front of the airport gate counters.

The new facility has a strong lineup of stores and restaurants. Opening in 2013, many if not all at the April 16 start-up of operations in the new concourse, will be Cantina Laredo and D Magazine News, as shown above, plus Baskin-Robbins, Billy Bob?s Texas, Campisi?s Pizza, Cool River, Creative Kidstuff, Cru Wine Bar, Dickey?s BBQ, Dunkin Donuts, Fire CZ, Hudson News, LaMadeleine, Manchu Wok, Moe?s SW Grill, Sky Canyon, Soybu Bliss, Spectacles, Starbucks, Tech On the Go, Texas Monthly, Texpress Gourmet, The Cowboy Store?Famous Boots, Travel & Leisure Travel Store, West End News and Whataburger.

Coming in 2014 will be Brueggers Bagels, Chick-fil-A, Chili?s Too, CNN Newstand, Desigual, Fair Park Texas, Jason?s Deli, Mallasadi Men?s Boutique, Paciugo Gelato, and Starbucks. Below, we have a map.
