Internet Tax Coming
With Christmas just around the corner, there is shopping to be done.
Seeing that the economy is still tight due to Washington?s terrible recession-prolonging policies, finding any type of savings on gift items makes a big difference.
The internet has been a major avenue to savings ? in most cases, small online shops and large digital markets like Amazon are tax-free.
With the federal government wanting to tax nearly everything that moves, online tax-free shopping has been a safe haven for consumers who want avoid the government?s money-grabbing reach.
Sadly, this may very soon change.
Yes, the government is working right now to establish an online sales tax.
That?s why we must contact U.S. Representative and Senators to make sure that doesn?t happen.
Take Action and Blast Faxes to U.S. Congressmen and say ?NO!? to the Internet Tax!
The reality is: such a tax was nearly established earlier this month via an amendment to the National Defense Authorization Act. (What does an online tax have to do with ?National Defense??)
Although the amendment failed, we shouldn?t be celebrating victory just yet. The fact that the amendment failed should immediately tell us that its proponents will be looking to accomplish their goals through other pieces of legislation.
We already have evidence. Right now there are a total of three bills in Congress that would create an internet sales tax ? the Marketplace Fairness Act, the Marketplace Equity Act, and the Main Street Fairness Act.
But don?t be fooled by the bills? titles ? there is nothing ?equal? or ?fair? about expanding taxes!
Taxation is an enemy of economic freedom and must always be combated.
Congress needs to hear from the American people on this. We must tell them: ?No Internet Tax!?
Will you make your voice heard?
Take Action and Blast Faxes to U.S. Congressmen and say ?NO!? to the Internet Tax!
The vast majority of Americans benefit from tax-free online shopping. Not only does the internet enlarge the marketplace and allow consumers better prices, it also allows small-town businesses to sell their products throughout the country and the world!
Plainly, online shopping has revolutionized buying and selling for the better.
If internet tax proponents get their way this will all change, which is why we must stop them.
Like in all other markets, when the government intervenes the consumers ? you and I ? suffer. We end up paying higher prices while government and protected businesses profit.
And think about the burden to small online businesses. If an internet sales tax is established ? something that could become a reality before the end of this lame duck session ? small businesses would have to grapple with ever-changing, ever-complex tax jurisdictions? all 9,600 of them nationwide!
Loading businesses with tax-related burdens is a very bad idea ? especially in this Great Recession!
The federal government is to encourage commerce, not prevent it. The Constitution is clear on that; Article I, Section VIII, Clause III gives the U.S. Government power: ?To regulate Commerce with foreign Nations, and among the several States, and with the Indian Tribes.?
In 1992, the Supreme Court ruled in Quill Corps. vs. North Dakota that states cannot force remote, out of state sellers to collect local taxes for them.
The U.S. Congress is making a bad choice in overriding the SCOTUS ruling through new tax legislation.
We must demand Congress to refuse all bills that would establish taxes on internet commerce.
Take Action and Blast Faxes to U.S. Congressmen and say ?NO!? to the Internet Tax!
America has been made great by abiding by the principles of freedom and liberty established in law by our Founders.
Economic freedom is the foundation from which our other freedoms ? speech, assembly, religion, travel, etc. ? flow.
Greater taxes means less economic freedom.
Our founders wrote the Declaration of Independence and went to war to fight taxes of less than five percent, a tax rate we could only wish for today.
We already are overtaxed as a people, and the argument that the government can handle our money better than we can is a flat out lie and must be rejected.
Right now, as the U.S. Congress is working to establish internet taxes, we must do all we can to stop them in their tracks. We must demand lawmakers to reject tax-expansion on the internet and preserve economic freedom.
