The Ultimate Fear: Fear of Success - The Self Improvement Blog

fear1By Darcy Hayer ?

Marianne Williamson once stated ?Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure.? The full quote can be found all over the internet, but in short the quote states that we have a fear of going after our dreams because people will view us differently, we will stand out and feel uncomfortable. Williamson suggests that this one fear is what keeps us from achieving greatness.

Our Deepest Fear Is That We Are Powerful Beyond Measure:

The quote is one of the most inspiring and well known quotes that you will ever come across, and it will give you a completely different angle on the way you view yourself and the world. This chill-giver quote states that our deepest fear is that we are scared to be someone and something so great, and as awkward as it may sound, we actually fear becoming a huge success. Everyone has genius inside them but to release that genius is what frightens people because we are subconsciously afraid to stand out from the rest. Sure, many fear failure, but what Marianne Williamson suggests (and is most likely true for you), is that people far more fear success because of the way others will view them. People unwillingly care too much about how they will be perceived by others that they will even let their dreams fade away because of it. Even the great Ben Franklin once stated ?it is in the eyes of others and not our own eyes which ruin us.? If you wish to awaken the sleeping giant from within, you must conquer and eliminate this fear, you must not care how others will view you, whether they might get jealous and envious or not is up to them. You truly need to move past this fear, as it is most likely, your deepest fear.

Are You Living Life Small So Others Don?t Feel Insecure Around You?

It scares most of us to stand out due to the fact that we feel like we?re going to be different than our peers, and we wrongfully believe that others will feel uncomfortable around us. The feeling of loneliness is a very scary thought for most, and that feeling alone can be what?s holding you back from your wildest dreams. Loneliness is one of the most dreadful feelings one can endure, but getting past that feeling to accomplish goals can be life changing.

We often subconsciously think we?re being humble by not surmounting to something great, so that others won?t feel insecure or unmeasurable to us, we are sadly mistaken, because this resists us from pursuing our ambitions. For example, you may have a desire to become a more positive and enlightened individual, however when around your peers, you tend to swoop to their level and begin to complain about life just as they do because you want to be able to connect with them. People hate to feel out of place, and hence do things to appeal to others just to avoid the uncomfort. However, this will not help you nor will it help them become successful; sure you will feel a sense of short-term connection, but what you need to realize is that these types of connections are fake because you?re not showing your real potential. In order to accomplish your dreams, these connections can not hold you back, you need to be able to let go of the people that keep you where you are so you can grow into who you want to become. Sympathetic love for people does nothing for others but let them stay comfortable in their current lifestyle. You must push yourself to that inner potential you know you have and not worry about others, surely they will follow.

Believe It Or Not, You Will Change The World By Going After Your Dreams

When you decide to actually do what you love, and have the courage to pursue your dreams, whatever they may be, you then pave a way for others to follow. Now imagine if you?re achieving great success, you?ve got the body you?ve always wanted, you?ve got your dream partner, you?re financially free, and you just love life, now imagine when you?re around people who don?t have that kind of success. Chances are, they will begin to feel awkward, uncomfortable and maybe even a little jealous, this awkwardness will make them do one of two things, they will either stop hanging out with you, or it will inspire them to make major changes in their own lives, and push them to follow their deep desires and passions too.

If you can overcome this fear, you will be victorious in your quest, you will soar to new heights and have a much more fulfilling life. The best part is that you won?t be lonely because you will either meet people with similar achievements, or you will subconsciously enlighten your friends and family to strive for greatness. When you become an achiever in your life, you become an example, a leader and most importantly, an inspiration to the world for others to learn from and follow. Dare to be so great! Like the end of Marianne Williamson?s famous quote suggests, ?? as we let our own light shine, we unconsciously give other people permission to do the same. As we are liberated from our own fear, our presence automatically liberates others.?
