Michele Bachmann?s annoucement surprises supporters

Rep. Michele Bachmann at a rally with Tea Party Patriots coordinator Jenny Beth Martin. (Alex Wong/Getty Image??

Earlier this month, while planning a press conference with other lawmakers and tea party leaders in response to the Internal Revenue Service's unfair targeting of conservatives, Minnesota Rep. Michele Bachmann told Tea Party Patriots national coordinator Jenny Beth Martin that she longed to travel and speak to tea party groups more often than she had been able to recently.

At the time, Martin didn't think much of Bachmann's comment, which she said was just made in passing. As planned, Martin joined Bachmann and other tea-party-friendly lawmakers outside the U.S. Capitol building on May 16 to speak out against the federal tax collection agency's practices. The IRS controversy helped breathe some new life into the tea party movement by offering a fresh platform to rail against both its targeting of conservatives and its role in implementing the federal health care law.

Two weeks later, when Bachmann abruptly announced she would not seek re-election to her House seat, Martin suddenly remembered what Bachmann had told her. Perhaps she had been hinting at something?

"Maybe she couldn't engage in a full-blown campaign at home and also spread the message in the way she is able to around the country," Martin told Yahoo News in an interview. "And also at the same time fight the battles on Capitol Hill. There's only so much a single person can do."

From the onset of the movement, Bachmann was one of the tea party's most prominent champions in Washington. She co-founded the House Tea Party Caucus in July 2010, spoke at rallies for groups around the country, introduced a bill to repeal President Barack Obama's health insurance overhaul immediately after it passed and embraced the tea party label during her short-lived run for president in 2012.

When Obama gave his first State of the Union address in 2011, Bachmann made waves by giving a televised "tea party response" in coordination with Tea Party Express. To many, she was (and is) the face of the tea party in the capital city.

Bachmann's decision to leave Congress came as an abrupt surprise to tea party coordinators, according to Martin and Tea Party Express Chairwoman Amy Kremer, two leaders of tea party groups that have worked closely with Bachmann since the movement's early days during Obama's first term. Bachmann was traveling in Russia and out of pocket when her video announcing the decision was posted online on Wednesday morning, leaving tea party leaders to draw their own conclusions about the reason for her departure.

Tea party organizers said they were disappointed by Bachmann's move, but they say they hope she will continue working with them when she leaves office. They also expressed hope that she will seek office again soon by running for Senate or launching another bid for the presidency.

"We have not heard the last of her," Kremer told Yahoo News. "Just because she's not seeking re-election for her congressional seat doesn't mean she won't run for higher office at some point. I still think she has a platform."

Kremer was quick to add that as a movement established to function without an identifiable leader, she does not anticipate that Bachmann's departure will mean the end of the tea party.

"She's been a strong and vocal voice for us, but the tea party movement is so diverse and there are so many people involved with different local groups, different national groups. The tea party movement is not focused on any one individual or any one organization," Kremer said. "The tea party movement is what it is because of the people who are out there across the country, not because of any one leader, whether it is a leader of an organization or somebody in the halls of Congress."

Stocks edge lower as investors reassess Fed fears - The Seattle Times

Originally published May 23, 2013 at 7:44 AM | Page modified May 23, 2013 at 3:02 PM

NEW YORK ?

Investors recovered their poise after a shaky start to trading on Wall Street that sent stocks sharply lower.

U.S. markets plummeted immediately after the opening bell Thursday following a global slump prompted partly by an unexpected slowdown in Chinese manufacturing. Concern that the Federal Reserve might ease back on its economic stimulus program sooner than expected had also riled investors.

The dip gave investors who missed this year's stock market surge an opportunity to get into the market, and by midday the market had recouped most of its early loss. Stocks even climbed into positive territory by midday, then ended the day marginally lower.

"Most institutions, most hedge funds and most individuals have watched the market go up without them, so the dips are being bought," said Jim Russell, regional investment director at U.S. Bank. "There's a very strong case for U.S. stocks."

For the most part, the U.S. stock market has been going up steadily since the beginning of the year, with only infrequent declines. Investors' optimism has been stoked by a pickup in hiring at U.S. employers, a recovery in the housing market and record profits at U.S. corporations.

All that has helped push the Dow up 16.7 percent this year. The Standard & Poor's 500 index is 15.7 percent than at the start of 2013.

On Thursday, however, trading was volatile.

The Dow Jones industrial average ended the day just 12.67 points lower, or 0.1 percent, at 15,294.50. It fell as much as 127 points during the first hour of trading.

A sell-off in global markets came after minutes from the latest Fed meeting, released Wednesday afternoon, indicated that several policymakers were leaning toward slowing the central bank's bond-buying program as early as June if the economy continues to recover.

The central bank is spending $85 billion a month buying bonds. That program has been keeping interest rates low in an effort to encourage borrowing, spending and investing. It's also meant to encourage investors to buy risky assets like stocks.

Investors were also unsettled by the report that showed manufacturing in China, the world's No. 2 economy, unexpectedly shrank this month. HSBC Corp. said the preliminary version of its monthly purchasing managers index had dropped to a seven-month low. China's booming economy has been a major driver of global growth in recent years and investors worry when they see signs that it's slowing down.

Stocks fell sharply in Asia Thursday. Japan's Nikkei index dropped 7.3 percent after news was released about the slowdown in Chinese manufacturing. The declines extended to Europe, where Germany's DAX index, which has been at a record high, slid 2.1 percent.

The sell-off looked set to continue when trading opened in New York, but the market quickly hit bottom and reversed course.

Some investors also reevaluated the concern about the Fed easing, or tapering, its economic stimulus program.

Any pullback of the Fed's stimulus should be seen as a positive signal because it would mean that the U.S. economy is getting stronger, said Joe Quinlan, chief market strategist at U.S. Trust.

"When the Fed starts to taper, the fundamentals of the U.S. economy have improved even further than we have already seen," said Quinlan. "The Fed tapering is actually a good story for U.S. equities and the economy."

Encouraging news about the U.S. economy also helped the case for stock market bulls Thursday.

Sales of new homes rose in April to the second-highest level since the summer of 2008, the Commerce Department reported Thursday. Also, the median price for a new home hit a record high, another sign that housing is recovering.

There was good news on the labor market, too.

The number of Americans applying for unemployment benefits fell 23,000 last week to 340,000, a level consistent with solid job growth, the Labor Department said. That suggests employers are laying off fewer workers. The decline in claims has coincided with steady job growth over the past six months.

In other U.S. stock trading, the Standard & Poor's 500 index closed down 4.84 points to 1,650.51, or 0.3 percent. The Nasdaq composite fell 3.88 points, or 0.1 percent, to 3,459.42.

In commodities trading, the price of crude oil fell 3 cents to $94.25 a barrel. Gold rose $24.40, or 1.8 percent, to $1,391.80 an ounce. The dollar fell against the euro and the yen.

In U.S. government bond trading, the yield on the benchmark 10-year Treasury note edged down to 2.02 percent from 2.04 percent. The yield on the note falls when the bond's price rises.

Among stocks making big moves, Ralph Lauren fell $4.37, or 2.3 percent, to $183.69. The apparel seller reported revenue that fell short of what financial analysts were expecting. Sluggish economic conditions and the decision to cut certain businesses reduced sales.

PC maker Hewlett-Packard surged $3.63, or 17.1 percent, to $24.86 after the company delivered second-quarter earnings that topped the estimates of both its own management and financial analysts.

Dollar Tree rose $1.82, or 3.8 percent, to $50.19 after the discount store chain said its earnings climbed 15 percent as customers spent more. The earnings beat the expectations of Wall Street analysts who follow the company.

World's most extreme hearing animal: The greater wax moth

May 8, 2013 ? Researchers at the University of Strathclyde have discovered that the greater wax moth is capable of sensing sound frequencies of up to 300 kHz ? the highest recorded frequency sensitivity of any animal in the natural world.

Humans are only capable of hearing sounds of 20kHz maximum, dropping to around 12-15 kHz as we age, and even dolphins, known exponents of ultrasound, can?t compete as their limitations are around 160 kHz.

The research, conducted at the University?s Centre for Ultrasonic Engineering, has identified the extraordinary sensory characteristics of the moth, paving the way for developments in air-couple ultrasound.

Dr James Windmill, who has led the research at Strathclyde, said: ?We are extremely surprised to find that the moth is capable of hearing sound frequencies at this level and we hope to use the findings to better understand air-coupled ultrasound.?

?The use of ultrasound in air is extremely difficult as such high frequency signals are quickly weakened in air. Other animals such as bats are known to use ultrasound to communicate and now it is clear that moths are capable of even more advanced use of sound.

?It?s not entirely clear how the moths have developed to be able to hear at such a high frequency, but it is possible that they have had to improve the communication between each other to avoid capture from their natural predator ? the bat ? which use similar sounds.?

The research findings will allow the Dr Windmill and his colleagues to further develop their understanding of ultrasound and how to transmit and receive ultrasonic pulses travelling in air.

With frequency sensitivity that is unparalleled in the animal kingdom, this moth is ready for any echolocation call adaptations made by the bat in the on-going bat?moth evolutionary war.

Dr Windmill?s multi-disciplinary research team is now working to apply the biological study of this, and other insect ears to the design of micro-scale acoustic systems. It is hoped that by studying the unprecedented capabilities of the moth?s ear, the team can produce new technological innovations, such as miniature microphones.

(AP) ? Carmelo Anthony hung from the rim, the helpless defender who tried to stop his dunk lying on the court below after falling down.

Pretty soon, Anthony's jumper was falling, too.

Once that happened, the New York Knicks blew away the Indiana Pacers with a performance that resembled something from earlier this season, not this series.

Anthony scored 32 points, 16 during a 30-2 New York onslaught in the second half, and the Knicks beat the Pacers 105-79 on Tuesday night to even the Eastern Conference semifinals at one game.

"I think for the most part from the start of the game and throughout the whole game, I think we played with a sense of urgency today," Anthony said. "We played the way we've been playing as far as competing at the highest level."

Iman Shumpert added 15 points, including a sensational follow dunk in the first half, and Raymond Felton scored 14 as the Knicks turned a close game into a blowout over the final 15 minutes.

Paul George scored 20 points for the Pacers, who had a two-point lead and momentum when coach Frank Vogel called timeout with a little more than 3 minutes left in the third quarter.

By the time the Pacers got on the board in the final period, the Knicks had opened a 26-point advantage.

"The fourth quarter we just defensively, we picked up," Knicks coach Mike Woodson said. "We kept getting stop after stop and then we would rebound the ball and get it up and our offense began to flow like old times. It was kind of nice to see."

Game 3 is Saturday at Indianapolis.

It was the first time the Knicks scored 100 points in a playoff game since June 9, 1999, when they beat the Pacers 101-94. It was New York's largest margin of victory in the postseason since a 109-75 rout of Detroit on April 24, 1992, according to information provided by ESPN Stats and Info to the Knicks.

David West scored 13 points for the Pacers, who committed 21 turnovers that led to 32 points, negating their height advantage that loomed so large in their Game 1 victory.

Indiana had trailed most of the night before taking a 64-62 lead on George Hill's 3-pointer with 3:28 left in the third quarter that capped a 10-4 run, the Pacers seeming to have all the momentum.

Vogel then called timeout with a little more than 3 minutes left and subbed out center Roy Hibbert.

Seeing the middle open, Anthony came back attacking, first with a drive and then a dunk while drawing a foul that knocked over Hibbert's replacement, Jeff Pendergraph, and the game was never the same.

"It was our timeout," Vogel said. "I usually use that situation to put something in while we have the ball."

New York closed the period on a 10-2 run, Pablo Prigioni opened the fourth with a 3-pointer and a jumper in the lane, drawing chants of "Pablo! Pablo!" and then Anthony put it away.

He hit a jumper and a 3-pointer, and after Tyson Chandler's follow dunk, the NBA's scoring leader converted a three-point play and drilled another 3-pointer before another basket by Chandler made it 92-66, extending the run to 30-2.

"Melo just caught fire," George said.

Tyler Hansbrough got the Pacers on the board with two free throws with 4:48 left, and the Pacers finally made a field goal when reserve Orlando Johnson hit a 3-pointer with 3:07 to go after Vogel had started emptying his bench.

Prigioni and Kenyon Martin finished with 10 points apiece as the Knicks endured another dreadful game from Sixth Man of the Year J.R. Smith, who was 3 of 15 for eight points.

Anthony had shot 35 for 110 over his previous four games but broke out of his slump Tuesday, going 13 of 26 and adding nine rebounds as the Knicks, pummeled on the boards in Indiana's 102-95 victory in Game 1, finished with a 37-35 advantage.

Indiana had a 44-30 advantage on the boards Saturday. The Game 1 winner won all of the six series these teams played between 1993-00, but the Knicks refused to panic, with Woodson not considering a change to a bigger lineup to match the Pacers' size.

It wasn't needed.

"I think we just made a point to team rebound," Chandler said.

The Knicks scored seven straight points midway through the first quarter and led 29-20 at the end of the period. But unlike in Game 1, they extended the lead for much of the second.

They got the lead to 11 a couple of times early in the period, once emphatically when Shumpert darted into the lane when Chris Copeland shot a 3-pointer from the other side of the floor, went unchecked toward the rim and grabbed the rebound with one hand and threw it down powerfully, a play that had the Madison Square Garden crowd still buzzing a few minutes later.

"I think I was trying to make a statement," said Shumpert, who didn't even play until midseason after tearing his ACL in last year's playoff opener. "I just wanted to win this game real bad. We needed this game."

Shumpert's jumper late in the quarter capped an 8-0 run and extended the Knicks' lead to 47-34 with 3:46 remaining, but West made a basket before George scored the final six points, his 3-pointer cutting it to 47-42 with 1:16 left, and neither team scored the rest of the way.

Indiana committed 12 turnovers that led to 20 points in the half.

Notes: The Pacers' only previous Game 1 win in New York had been exactly 18 years earlier, when Reggie Miller scored eight points in the closing seconds to stun the Knicks in a 107-105 victory. Miller worked this game as an analyst for TNT, talking to Knicks fan Spike Lee before the game. ... Woodson said Amare Stoudemire had no setbacks Tuesday after playing in 3-on-3 scrimmages Monday, and the hope is still for him to return from right knee surgery on Saturday. ... Indiana has a 19-18 lead in total games won in the playoff rivalry.

Researches say diagnosis and intervention could be impacted by new findings

WASHINGTON Using MRI, neuroscientists at Georgetown University Medical Center found significant differences in brain anatomy when comparing men and women with dyslexia to their non-dyslexic control groups, suggesting that the disorder may have a different brain-based manifestation based on sex.

Their study, investigating dyslexia in both males and females, is the first to directly compare brain anatomy of females with and without dyslexia (in children and adults). Their findings were published online in the journal Brain Structure and Function.

Because dyslexia is two to three times more prevalent in males compared with females, "females have been overlooked," says senior author Guinevere Eden, PhD, director for the Center for the Study of Learning and past-president of the International Dyslexia Association.

"It has been assumed that results of studies conducted in men are generalizable to both sexes. But our research suggests that researchers need to tackle dyslexia in each sex separately to address questions about its origin and potentially, treatment," Eden says.

Previous work outside of dyslexia demonstrates that male and female brains are different in general, adds the study's lead author, Tanya Evans, PhD.

"There is sex-specific variance in brain anatomy and females tend to use both hemispheres for language tasks, while males just the left," Evans says. "It is also known that sex hormones are related to brain anatomy and that female sex hormones such as estrogen can be protective after brain injury, suggesting another avenue that might lead to the sex-specific findings reported in this study."

The study of 118 participants compared the brain structure of people with dyslexia to those without and was conducted separately in men, women, boys and girls. In the males, less gray matter volume is found in dyslexics in areas of the brain used to process language, consistent with previous work. In the females, less gray matter volume is found in dyslexics in areas involved in sensory and motor processing.

The results have important implications for understanding the origin of dyslexia and the relationship between language and sensory processing, says Evans.

Missing link in signals contributes to neurodegeneration

May 8, 2013 ? In many neurodegenerative diseases the neurons of the brain are over-stimulated and this leads to their destruction. After many failed attempts and much scepticism this process was finally shown last year to be a possible basis for treatment in some patients with stroke. But very few targets for drugs to block this process are known.

In a new highly detailed study, researchers have discovered a previously missing link between over-stimulation and destruction of brain tissue, and shown that this might be a target for future drugs. This research, led by the A. I. Virtanen Institute at the University of Eastern Finland in collaboration with scientists from Lausanne University Hospital, University of Lausanne and the company Xigen Pharma AG, was published in the Journal of Neuroscience.

What is this missing link? We have known for years that over-stimulated neurons produce nitric oxide molecules. Although this can activate a signal for destruction of cells, the small amount of nitric oxide produced cannot alone explain the damage to the brain. The team now show that a protein called NOS1AP links the nitric oxide that is produced to the damage that results.. NOS1AP binds an initiator of cell destruction called MKK3 and also moves within the cell to the source of nitric oxide when cells are over-activated.. The location of these proteins in cells causes them to convert the over-stimulation signal into a cell destruction response. The team designed a chemical that prevents NOS1AP from binding the source of nitric oxide. This reduces the cell destruction response in cells of the brain and as a result it limits brain lesions in rodents.

This translational research was funded mainly by the Academy of Finland, the European Union and the University of Eastern Finland and used the recently developed high-throughput imaging facilities at the A. I. Virtanen Institute. The researchers hope that continuation of their work could lead to improved treatments for diseases such as stroke, epilepsy and chronic conditions like Alzheimer's disease. As NOS1AP is associated with schizophrenia, diabetes and sudden cardiac death, future research in this area may assist the treatment of a wider range of diseases.

Kim Kardashian Met Gala: Kanye West's Girlfriend Goes To Costume Institute Ball (PHOTOS)

At long last, Kim Kardashian has met the Met Gala. While rumors swirled last year that the reality star and fashion plate was banned from the industry event by Anna Wintour herself, Kim's coupling with Kanye West, boyfriend/baby daddy/friend of Riccardo Tisci, has helped the girl get in.

Naturally, he's the designer Kim chose to wear to the Costume Institute's festivities. "Riccardo's vision of punk for me is not the typical mohawk you'd envision," Kim said on the red carpet Monday night. She wore a long-sleeve floral number with a thigh-high slit -- which featured her baby bump prominently, of course.

What do you think of Kim's "fashion Oscars" outfit? Tell us in the comments!

Boston bombing: Man accused of lying to investigators asks to be released

One of the three men who visited Boston Marathon bombing suspect Dzhokhar Tsarvaev's dorm room after the bombing is seeking release from jail. Robel Phillipos, 19, is charged with lying to investigators.?

By Associated Press / May 5, 2013

This courtroom sketch shows defendant Robel Phillipos appearing in front of Federal Magistrate Marianne Bowler at the Moakley Federal Courthouse in Boston, Mass. on May 1. Phillipos, and two other college friends of Boston Marathon bombing suspect Dzhokhar Tsarnaev, were arrested and Phillipos was charged with lying to investigators about visiting Tsarnaev's dorm room.

Lawyers for a man charged with lying to investigators after the Boston Marathon bombings are asking a federal judge to release him from jail, saying he had nothing to do with the deadly bombings and isn't a flight risk.

Robel Phillipos, 19, of Cambridge, faces a detention hearing Monday in US District Court. Defense attorneys said in court documents filed Saturday that authorities' claim that Phillipos gave them conflicting accounts is "refutable."

"This case is about a frightened and confused 19-year-old who was subjected to intense questioning and interrogation, without the benefit of counsel, and in the context of one of the worst attacks against the nation," lawyers Derege Demissie and Susan Church wrote. "The weight of the federal government under such circumstances can have a devastatingly crushing effect on the ability of an adolescent to withstand the enormous pressure and respond rationally."

Phillipos was charged last week with lying to investigators about visiting bombing suspect Dzhokhar Tsarnaev's college dorm room on April 18, three days after the bombings. Two other friends were charged with conspiring to obstruct justice by taking a backpack with fireworks and a laptop from Tsarnaev's dorm room.

Phillipos was at the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth, where all four men had studied, by coincidence on April 18, his lawyers said in the court papers. He had taken a leave of absence in December and hadn't spoken to Tsarnaev or the other two men for more than two months, they said.

"By sheer coincidence and bad luck, he was invited to attend a seminar on campus on April 18," the night the three allegedly went to Tsarnaev's dorm room, according to the documents. "As such, he did not have much to offer the authorities regarding the investigation of the suspect."

To support their request for bail, the lawyers filed affidavits from friends and relatives of Phillipos who described him as a considerate, thoughtful and friendly young man, the son of a single mother who emigrated to the United States from Ethiopia. They said he wasn't a flight risk, noting that he is lifelong resident of Massachusetts and has many relatives there.

Phillipos faces a maximum of eight years behind bars and a $250,000 fine if convicted.

Tsarnaev and his 26-year-old brother, Tamerlan, are accused of carrying out the April 15 bombing, which used pressure cookers packed with explosives, nails, ball bearings and metal shards. The attack killed three people and injured more than 260 others near the marathon's finish line.

Biblical values to build into your home - Christian Home and Family

biblical valuesSome core biblical values to consider.

When Mindi and I were expecting our first child, we did the typical ?new parent? things.

  • We read books on pregnancy. (and we watched a video or two like the one at the bottom of this post)
  • We read books on parenting.
  • We talked a lot about our hopes and dreams for our family.

It was a very exciting time.

But one of the most important conversations we had, had to do with the ?biblical values? we wanted to characterize our home and family.

Have you given that much thought?

Since our goal was to have a Christ-centered home, we wanted the things characteristic of God/Christ to be characteristic of our home and family.

Here is a short-list of things that we saw as ?nonnegotiable? for our home.

THE INDWELLING OF CHRIST

In Galatians chapter 2, verse 20 Paul wrote?

I have been crucified with Christ. It is no longer I who live, but Christ who lives in me. And the life I now live in the flesh I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me.

This is one of the most important biblical values we taught our kids. Everything else we had to teach them depended on this one.

Admittedly, it?s one of the deeper truths of the New Testament? even difficult for adults to grasp at times (which is one reason why I?m making a video curriculum on the topic).

Of course, we brought it down to their level, but we didn?t down-play or soften its meaning or significance in doing so.

Our kids need to recognize that their Christian life is not about a ?new law? they are to follow (which is how many people deal with the New Testament).

They (and we) need to understand that because of their faith in Christ, they have Jesus Himself living in and through them via the power of the Holy Spirit.

The promise of new life is no joke.

Practically?

We talked about these truths from day one, when they were infants, when they were toddlers, when they were beginning to learn the basics of language, and beyond? to this day.

We read them books that taught and emphasized these truths (see the box on the right for one of our favorites.**)

We talked to them in the course of real life about Jesus living in them.

We drew out examples from their attitudes and behaviors where we could see Christ producing His fruit in them.

We encouraged them to learn to listen to the Spirit in the decisions and actions of daily live.

This one is foundational. It is what is underneath every other one I will mention. If it?s not, then all you are doing is raising little legalists.

TRUTH/HONESTY

Jesus said, in John chapter 18, verse 27

For this purpose I was born and for this purpose I have come into the world?to bear witness to the truth. Everyone who is of the truth listens to my voice.?

Truth is a big deal to God. It always has been. From the entrance of sin in the Garden of Eden (Genesis 3:1) we see God dealing with untruth quite severely.

As parents, we not only wanted our children to understand that lying (even white lies) was bad ? but WHY it was wrong.

Lying (untruth) is wrong because it violates the very nature and character of God.

He created language to reveal truth. When it is used to pervert truth (to say lies), it is not being used for its intended purpose and brings dishonor to God, the Creator of language.

Practically?

That meant that we decided, even before our children were born, that lying or deceit would be dealt with immediately and seriously.

Spankings were almost always the punishment for lying.

It was dealt with sternly.

If deceit was part of it? things got even worse.

Think it through? if Christ is to be the center of the home, then truth must be central to that home as well.

LOVE/CONSIDERATION

In first John chapter 14, verse 8 the scriptures teach that love is another thing that is fundamental to God?s nature.

Anyone who does not love does not know God, because God is love.

And notice the way this verse connects the dots?

GOD IS LOVE?

THEREFORE ANYONE WHO KNOWS HIM WILL BE LOVING.

As parents, we not only wanted our kids to be ?nice,? we wanted them to understand that being ?loving? was a reflection of the character of God, and of their relationship with Him.

Practically?

It meant that we taught our kids about God, and His love for them.

It meant that we led them to place their faith in Him.

We taught them how their relationship with God had to impact their relationships with others.

When one of them was being greedy, or petty, or intentionally cruel toward their sibling ? we responded immediately and strongly.

We didn?t say, ?Oh, that?s how brothers are?? or ?Brothers and sisters fight? that?s just the way it is.?

No.

We refused to allow that to be the case, because we knew that the God who lived in them desired to make His love known through them.

And we knew that as we guided them in understanding, He would guide them personally in applying it.

Tell me how these ideas strike you. Have you had these kinds of conversations together as parents? Are you beginning these kinds of conversations with your spouse?

Senior UK lawmaker quizzed over rape, denies allegations

LONDON (Reuters) - The deputy speaker of Britain's parliament, Nigel Evans, was arrested at the weekend on suspicion of rape and sexual assault, but said on Sunday the allegations against him were "completely false".

The 55-year-old member of Prime Minister David Cameron's Conservative party was detained on Saturday over attacks allegedly carried out at his home in Lancashire, northern England between July 2009 and March of this year, police said.

After being granted bail, Evans told reporters: "Yesterday I was interviewed by the police concerning two complaints - one of which dates back four years - made by two people who are well known to each other and who until yesterday I had regarded as friends.

"The complaints are completely false and I cannot understand why they have been made, especially as I have continued to socialize with one as recently as last week."

No further details of the complainants have been released by Lancashire police.

Evans, who has been a Member of Parliament for some 20 years, was elected as one of three deputy speakers three years ago.

The role mainly involves adjudicating the often noisy and fractious debates between Britain's rival parties who face each other across the floor of the House of Commons, parliament's lower chamber.

Evans, who announced to a newspaper in 2010 that he was gay, was vice-chairman of the Conservative party from 1999 to 2001 and shadow Welsh Secretary for two years after that while the Conservatives were in opposition.

Unearthed Reviews: Knight~Hammer. Four and like 99% of a star ...

KNIGHT~HAMMER

Time for another Unearthed Review.

Booting up the old RNG, I get a 15. 15 means KNIGHT~HAMMER.

I went to their page, their band image was broken, they listed themselves as Metal/Rock, their intro was almost non-existent. I readied myself for a whole lot of messy guitar noise with some talent-less roaring over the top.

I got something very different.

Here?s what they have to say about themselves:

KNIGHT~HAMMER?s full album will soon be available on iTUNES.

I checked, it?s not up there yet.

Here?s what I have to say about them:

KNIGHT~HAMMER are freaking awesome.

I am so so sad that I can?t give them 5 stars. The quality of these recordings is terrible. Not so terrible that it hides the magical viking metal gold that lies within, but terrible enough that it saddens me. On any other band such crappy recordings would equal an instant 1/2 star rating. But KNIGHT~HAMMER is different.

I once went to the pantheon in Rome. It was glorious, but I couldn?t help but feel that there was glory I could no longer see. I couldn?t help but see its ageing walls, the tourists, and the McDonalds next door. These things where blocking me from experiencing the building in its full glory. The hint of magnificence was still there, and it felt like it was teasing me from behind this impenetrable wall of awful.

I feel the same way right now.

Did I just say listening to KNIGHT~HAMMER was like seeing the pantheon? Damn straight I did.

KNIGHT~HAMMER is how you do a metal band right.

By simply looking at the title of the songs, I already know exactly what each song is about and what the mood of the track is.

Check it out.

Return of the Wizard ? It?s about a wizard coming back, and it?s EPIC.
Dragon Master ? It?s about the master of Dragons, and it?s EPIC.
Poison Chalice ? This chalice can kill you. This song is also EPIC.

These songs when deliver exactly what is promised and more. The wizard searches for his scepter and will kill any who get in his way. The Dragon master answers his summons and helps the turn the tide of war. The poison chalice is full of poison and you shouldn?t drink it.

Go listen to all of them. Now.

The band launches into each track with absolute conviction and zero irony. The music travels and changes within each track. The vocalist sings like a man who is currently holding a war-axe. Outside of the recording quality I cannot find a single flaw with this band, and I once reviewed a band poorly simply because they weren?t Queen.

Seriously, I?m a jerk! Criticising a viking rock group who make odd grammatical choices (~?) in and can?t correctly upload an image to Unearthed should be easy.

I can?t do it.

KNIGHT~HAMMER if you are out there, please re-record these songs professionally.

Give me more.

I NEED MORE.
