Verizon CFO says shared data plans coming mid-year

VerizonWe've already from Verizon's CEO Lowell McAdam that the carrier was planning to offer shared data plans. And leaks have indicated that the carrier is already prepping its backend system for the change. Now CFO Fran Shammo has narrowed down the time frame a bit for us, telling a group of investors that family data plans should debut towards the middle of the year. But, he was quick to clarify this isn't as simple as setting a launch date. The shift to the new billing system will take time and not everyone will be migrated on day one. Still, Shammo indicated it will be an important part of the ongoing transition to 4G and its future plans for mobile dominance.

Update: We mistakenly identified Fran Shammo as the CTO when, in fact, he is the CFO.

Hands-on with Fujitsu's Android prototype with ICS, Tegra 3 -- and LTE

Fujitsu Android Prototype

Android Central at Mobile World Congress Fujitsu is excited about its newest Android phone -- which we first heard as a faint whisper -- and rightfully so. It's got a beautiful high-resolution 4.6-inch LCD display and is running Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich. Plus it's got an external antenna, which always excites those of us from North America.

But the feature -- pair of features, actually -- that you really need to pay attention to is the fact that it's an LTE device with a Tegra 3 chipset. If you've been going through life thinking the two can't co-exist because of some sort of hardware incompatibility, get that out of your system now. Tegra 3 and LTE can (and will) play nicely together.

As far as the rest of the Arrows prototype goes, it's a mix of new beauty and old design. It's got a trio of physical buttons for menu, home and back. It's also got the 3.5mm headphone jack and microUSB ports covered by clunky doors. But that's all done for a reason -- this sucker's waterproof and dustproof.

Another notable spec is the 13.1-megapixel camera that has an ISO of 25600. Wowzers.

We've got more hands-on video and pics after the break.

Amoeba may offer key clue to photosynthetic evolution

ScienceDaily (Feb. 27, 2012) ? The major difference between plant and animal cells is the photosynthetic process, which converts light energy into chemical energy. When light isn't available, energy is generated by breaking down carbohydrates and sugars, just as it is in animal and some bacterial cells. Two cellular organelles are responsible for these two processes: the chloroplasts for photosynthesis and the mitochondria for sugar breakdown. New research from Carnegie's Eva Nowack and Arthur Grossman has opened a window into the early stages of chloroplast evolution.

Their work is published online by the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences in the week of February 27-March 2.

It is widely accepted that chloroplasts originated from photosynthetic, single-celled bacteria called cyanobacteria, which were engulfed by a more complex, non-photosynthetic cell more than 1.5 billion years ago. While the relationship between the two organisms was originally symbiotic, over evolutionary time the cyanobacterium transferred most of its genetic information to the nucleus of the host organism, transforming the original cyanobacterium into a chloroplast that is no longer able to survive without its host. A similar process resulted in the creation of mitochondria.

To sustain the function of the organelle, proteins encoded by the transferred genes are synthesized in the cytoplasm, or cell's interior, and then imported back into the organelle. In most systems that have been studied, the transport of proteins into the chloroplast occurs through a multi-protein import complex that enables the proteins to pass through the envelope membranes that surround the chloroplast.

Clearly the events that gave rise to chloroplasts and mitochondria changed the world forever. But it is difficult to research the process by which this happened because it took place so long ago. One strategy used to elucidate the way in which this process evolved has relied on identifying organisms for which the events that resulted in the conversion of a bacterium into a host-dependent organelle occurred more recently.

Nowack and Grossman focused their research on a type of amoeba called Paulinella chromatophora, which contains two photosynthetic compartments that also originated from an endosymbiotic cyanobacterium, but that represent an earlier stage in the formation of a fully evolved organelle.

These compartments, called chromatophores, transferred more than 30 of the original cyanobacterial genes to the nucleus of the host organism. While gene transfer has been observed for other bacterial endosymbionts, the function of the transferred genes has been unclear, since it does not appear that the endosymbionts (in contrast to organelles) are equipped to recapture those proteins, because they do not have appropriate protein import machineries.

The Carnegie team honed in on three of the P. chromatophora transferred genes, which encode proteins involved in photosynthesis, a process localized to the chromatophore. They set out to determine whether these proteins are synthesized in the cytoplasm of the amoeba and whether the mature proteins became localized to the chromatophore.

Using an advanced array of research techniques, they were able to determine that these three proteins are synthesized in the cytoplasm and then transported into chromatophores, where they assemble together with other, internally encoded proteins into working protein complexes that are part of the photosynthetic process.

Interestingly, the process by which these proteins are transported into chromatophores may also be novel and involve transit through an organelle called the Golgi apparatus, prior to becoming localized to the chromatophore. This suggests the occurrence of an initial, rudimentary process for proteins to cross the envelope membrane of the nascent chloroplast. This process ultimately evolved into one that is potentially more sophisticated and that uses specific protein complexes for efficient transport.

"This work demonstrates that P. chromatophora is a potentially powerful model for studying evolutionary processes by which organelles developed," Nowack said. "Obtaining a comprehensive list of proteins imported into chromatophores, including their functions and origins, as well as understanding the pathway by which these proteins are imported, could provide insight into the mechanism that eukaryotic cells use to 'enslave' bacteria and turn them into organelles such as chloroplasts and mitochondria."

This research was supported by Michael Melkonian, Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft, and the National Science Foundation.

Silence is golden for 'The Artist' - The Daily Graphic/Central Plains ...

By BRUCE KIRKLAND, QMI Agency

Updated 10 hours ago

LOS ANGELES - Silence is golden! The Artist is the best picture winner at the 84th Academy Awards, making it the first silent film to win this award since the very first Oscar ceremony in 1929.

Taking the top prize at the end of a long night meant that a co-production of France and Belgium won the big one ? for a total of five Oscars overall. Yet it was also the only one of the nine best picture nominees that had been filmed entirely in Los Angeles. The Artist, shot in black-and-white, re-creates the lives of silent cinema in Hollywood in the 1920s, just as the arrival of sound threatened careers of many stars.

Formidable! Jean Dujardin plays the silent film star who gives The Artist its title and he triumphed as best actor, pushing aside early favourite and Hollywood superstar George Clooney for the Oscar.

?I love this country!? Dujardin enthused at the Kodak Theatre before ending his acceptance speech with a rousing explosion of joyous French phrases, which he said was what his character would have said if he was able to speak more than two words on-screen. One of those was the French equivalent of the F-bomb, the second of the night and the third in Oscar history.

Despite the giddy night, don?t expect Dujardin to go Hollywood. ?I?m not an American actor,? he said backstage. ?I?m a French actor. I will continue in France. But, if I could make another film in America, I would.?

If Dujardin?s win was at least predicted, Meryl Streep?s was not when she took best actress for The Iron Lady. She beat out Viola Davis of The Help despite predictions that Davis had overtaken her late in the race. Davis proved to be a classy loser who gave her rival a big hug before Streep went up on stage. Streep, who took home her third Oscar from 17 career nominations, half joked that she figures that ?half of America? would have let out a big sigh when they heard her name called because they have seen her before. ?But whatever!? Streep said with a mischievous grin.

Backstage, she quipped that this might her last Oscar. ?I?m pushing the tolerance (level) ... I understand Streep Fatigue.? But she also perked up when she heard that, with three Oscars, she is behind only Katharine Hepburn, who has the acting record with four. Still, it does not concern her, Streep. ?I have everything I ever wanted in my life.?

Streep then set off to find some whiskey, like Thatcher used to enjoy each night. ?I?m soooo thirsty,? Streep said. ?I?m going to start with a couple ... and then we?ll see if I can walk on those Ferragamos.?

Overall, many films were chosen for the Oscar party, a lot more than usual this year. Going into Oscar night, 18 feature films had at least two nominations in the 20 categories devoted to feature films ? and another 23 had one nomination each.

But a lot fewer were taken to the podium, of course. The winners list was reduced to 11: The Artist, Hugo, The Help, The Descendants, Midnight in Paris, The Iron Lady, Rango, Beginners, The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo, The Muppets, Rango and A Separation. More critically, only three were multiple winners. With The Artist earning five Oscars ? the big one included ? that meant it ended the night tied with Hugo. The Iron Lady won two awards.

Like the Academy voters, Hazanavicius was delighted with the success of The Artist. But he is not convinced that ?just one movie? can effect any fundamental changes in how the film business works. Especially because so few filmmakers are allowed to take the kind of risks he took with The Artist. ?If it helps, I would be very proud of it.?

Oscar also has a new motto: Better late than never. At 82, Canadian legend Christopher Plummer is now the oldest winner in an acting category in Oscar history of the Academy Awards.

The graceful yet acerbic and funny Plummer won the best supporting actor Oscar for playing a gay man coming out of the closet in the film Beginners. His nomination was the only one Beginners got ? but Plummer made it pay handsomely. ?You?re only two years older than me, darling,? Plummer said as he cradled his trophy. ?Where have you been all my life?? Plummer is a second-time nominee but only a first-time winner. He had said before the Oscar show start that it was time to win because ?there isn?t much more of me left.?

Backstage, Plummer was wearing his Order of Canada pin on his velvet tuxedo. He was, he said, ?representing my country here.? He also responded to a Sun Media question saying that an Oscar at this point in his life is ?la creme on top? like the topping for a dessert. And he promised to keep on working and would die ?on stage or on set.?

Meanwhile, the Oscars are not just politically correct, they are intelligent. Octavia Spencer is now an Academy Award winner for brilliantly playing a black maid who raises white people?s children in the 1960s drama The Help.

Spencer demonstrated that, even when it is expected, an Oscar win can drive the winner to distraction. ?I?m freaking out!? a tearful Spencer said on stage at the Kodak Theatre as the audience burst into rapturous applause at the announcement of one of the first big awards. ?Thank you Academy for putting me with the hottest guy in the room,? Spencer said as she clutched her golden statuette.

Spencer?s win comes in a long and distinguished line of African-American winners. Hattie McDaniel broke the Academy Award colour barrier in the acting categories 72 Oscars ago by being the first black to even be nominated, for playing Mammy in Gone With the Wind (1939). Organizers forced her to sit in the back. But, when McDaniel won, it made history.

Backstage, Spencer politely refused to get into a discussion of what the Academy could do to generate more minority nominees. ?I don?t want to get on that bus,? she said before laughing and excusing hert unintended pun.

Canada, meanwhile, suffered a series of defeats. As expected, the Iranian film A Separation won as best foreign language film. It is thought to be good politics for Americans to choose it, because ? as director Asghar Farhadi said in his acceptance speech ? it means that people will say Iran and refer to the country?s history of ?glorious culture? and not political conflict. That put Montreal filmmaker Philippe Falardeau?s Monsieur Lazhar on the sidelines, although Falardeau has repeatedly said he would enjoy the Oscar ride and that his film is already a winner for its international attention and sales.

In the animated short category, two Canadian films were in contention. But both titles, Dimanche/Sunday and Wild Life, lost to an American entry, The Fantastic Flying Books of Mr. Morris Lessmore, which the filmmakers themselves said was made ?by two swamp rats from Louisiana.?

In the two screenplay categories, things unfolded as expected with Alexander Payne?s The Descendants winning for best adapted screenplay and Woody Allen?s Midnight in Paris earning the award for best original screenplay. Allen, of course, was not there to take home his trophy ? as usual.

Oscar also loves to tease. While it turned into the night of The Artist, the first two awards of the night both went to Martin Scorsese?s lavish Hugo, a love letter to the history of cinema.

Hugo, a technical marvel, ended up winning a clutch of craft categories, including for best cinematography, art direction, sound mixing and sound editing and visual effects.

The Artist took the Oscar for best score. That meant that a Canadian composer ? three-time Oscar winner Howard Shore (The Lord of the Rings) ? failed to add to his haul. This year, he was nominated for Hugo.

The makeup award ? no surprise ? went to The Iron Lady for the transformation of Streep into former British prime minister Maggie Thatcher.

The Oscar in the best documentary feature category ? which went to the high school football movie Undefeated ? also triggered the second F-bomb in Oscar history, this time from one of the eager young men involved, T.J. Martin. Last year, best supporting actress winner Melissa Leo dropped the first one. Martin apologized backstage for the slip-up, which he put down to enthusiasm.

Much cleaner was Gore Verbinski?s sweet acceptance speech for Rango, cited as the best animated feature. He admitted that animated movies are made by adults acting like children.

SocEnt Weekend: Business Ideas That Can Make a Difference ...

Curt Woodward2/24/12

When they set out to start a?business, plenty of entrepreneurs hope to change some slice of the world by solving a?problem, making their customers happy, and giving people jobs along the way. And that?s plenty of work on its?own.

But some companies, says longtime mobile entrepreneur Michael ?Luni? Libes, see business as an opportunity to have a?broader effect on society?missions like helping the poor, protecting the environment, or supporting education.

It?s that second group of entrepreneurs that Libes and friends are trying to cultivate with SocEnt Weekend, a?three-day startup experiment in Seattle aimed at encouraging social entrepreneurship.

The event kicks off Friday evening at the Hub Seattle, a?co-working space in Pioneer Square aimed at people tackling social issues. Mayor Mike McGinn is expected to speak, and there are all-star mentors, prizes for the winners, and some entrepreneurial lessons during the?program.

SocEnt Weekend borrows heavily from the template of Startup Weekend, the Seattle-based crash-entrepreneurship festivals that have spread worldwide in just a?few years. (It?s officially just ?inspired by? Startup Weekend, which Startup Weekend CEO Marc Nager says is just?fine.)

Libes

Even though it?s focused on do-gooder ideas, SocEnt Weekend isn?t looking to start nonprofits. Libes, who left mobile-data startup Ground Truth after its merger with Boston?s Umber Systems, wants to see for-profit business ideas that can also make a?difference in?society.

Libes, who?s been serving as an entrepreneur-in-residence at the Bainbridge Graduate Institute and University of Washington, says organizers haven?t of anyone else trying a?hackathon-type approach for encouraging social enterprises.

Seattle seems like a?decent place to kick off such an effort. The city?s voters are reliably liberal, and even fiscal conservatives tend to lean to the left on many social issues (Libes himself notes that he?s a ?libertarian capitalist.?)

The Puget Sound region also has a?notable roster of businesses that have kept environmental protection, premium compensation for workers, and other greater-good causes close to their hearts.?A good poster child is Starbucks, the Seattle coffee titan that gives health benefits to baristas, has upped standards for coffee growers, and is aiming for fully recycled coffee cups in the next few?years.

?They create a?product that no one needs,? Libes says. ?But they do it in a?highly public, socially conscious manner ? Their impact on society is positive. As opposed to Boston?s poster child for coffee, which is Dunkin??Donuts.?

Libes contends that a?socially responsible halo effect is a?big reason that people want to do business with Starbucks, taste in coffee aside. And there are other examples, like Ben & Jerry?s ice cream, Patagonia and REI in outdoor sports gear, and even Craigslist, which has always put community commerce ahead of making tons of money for?itself.

For local flavor, I?d even throw in Dick?s Hamburgers?the family-owned company pays excellent wages for food service (almost $10 an hour to start) and offers free health insurance, subsidized dental coverage, college scholarships, paid volunteer time, and child-care stipends for part-time?employees.

?There?s a?growing number of companies, big, established, successful companies, that fall in this definition of for-profit social enterprise,? he says. And who knows?the next one of those big ideas could find its spark this?weekend.

Personal Development: Tips And Tricks For A Better You ? Submit ...

Personal development is the process of an individual improving their self by increasing their mental, spiritual, and physical capacities. This can involve acquiring new knowledge, exercising, seeking religion, or any other activity that is beneficial to the person doing it. The following article will give you tips for your own personal development.

Don?t try to change your life based solely on your memory. If you memorize how to live your life, and never really digest the information, nothing will truly stick with you. While it is important to know and remember the ?how,? you also need to be aware of why you are doing what you are, and that is to improve your life and the person you are.

You want to be different from the crowd. Make yourself stand out and be a person people look up to. It is always a good idea to reach for the best in life and do not be too overbearing when you show yourself to the world. Make yourself a brand.

It?s never too early to learn personal development. Children need to be told and shown that they are capable of doing anything they set their mind to. If this is ingrained in them from the time they are young, they will develop a solid sense of positive self esteem that can stay with them throughout their life.

Find ways to turn off your brain when you are going to bed. When you lay there in the dark alone with your thoughts, you usually end up beating yourself up over things or stressing about other things. You then end up losing sleep and start the new day tired and exhausted instead of with renewed energy.

Strive to make the best decisions in all aspects of your life and you will make your own good fortune. In most instances, people position themselves to make good outcomes possible.

To get the most out of life avoid procrastination at all costs. Putting something off for the future just means you?ll never get around to doing it. The first step is always the hardest, but once you?ve started doing something important you?ll find it gets easier and easier to keep going.

If you have problems with feelings of anxiety, take some time to examine them. Use the five W?s to sort out who, what, where, when, why you are anxious. Once you have identified your triggers, you will be able to start getting a handle on how you can manage your fears.

A great tip for personal development is to always share your success. If you do not share your success, it is not real success because you are not inspiring others to achieve their goals. Real success comes by telling others about what you have accomplished and inspiring them to succeed with their goals.

Things that may limit your personal development primarily stem from a negative state of mind. This inhibits your ability to become more and attain more as a human in regards to your career, finances, and your emotional and physical states. If you limit your beliefs and disregard all of the positive qualities about yourself, you will not be able to move forward with your development.

A great tip for people who suffer from depression is to try and keep up with your social life, even if sometimes, you really don?t feel like it. Often times, being around a lot of people will make you feel more comfortable coming out of your shell and engaging with the rest of the world.

Making time in your daily schedule for yourself is important for personal development. Working for others is common ? even, in some cases, very noble ? but in order to see success in a personal development routine, one must set aside some personal time to work towards that success. Even a little bit of scheduled time is better than none at all.

One way to control your feelings of anger is to ask yourself whether your anger or reaction will have any impact on the source of your rage. Chances are very good that you will discover that whatever it is that seems so important now, has little or no bearing on what happens in the future.

In the digital age, you need not only keep your physical space free from clutter and mess, but you need to keep your digital one clean too. For many people, this means organizing your e-mail. If you are someone who gets thousands a day, keep them organized so that you can keep up with them. It?s impossible to handle that many in a single day, but by organizing them, you can get many more done.

Use positive affirmations to counteract negative thoughts and comments. When you find yourself dwelling on a piece of negativity, whether it comes from your own doubts or from someone else, put it out of your mind. You need a positive affirmation that contradicts the negative thought. Use an existing affirmation or create a new one and repeat it to yourself 20 times.

Helping oneself is often overlooked as an important factor in one?s growth and development. Taking hold on the reins of your life by employing self help techniques is a great way to positively direct your path. The tips listed in this article will equip you with the knowledge to go about the self help process efficiently and effectively.

Cons of an Produced Household Equity Loan | Berger's view

A produced home equity loan is the amount of money which a owner of a house can borrow contrary to the pre-existing equity within their produced property. These kind of lending options do normally have a $100,000 restrict even so the fascination given to the mortgage loan is allowable to the home owner?s income taxes. There are 2 typical forms of equity lending options offered a hard and fast rate mortgage loan or perhaps a line of credit mortgage loan.

The fixed rate mortgage loan is essentially a 2nd home finance loan cash advance operates similar to an average home finance loan. The debtor turns into a group amount of cash, normally by using a good, and concurs to pay it back spanning a specified period of time with fascination. The interest rate rate remains to be set within the duration of the money which keeps the monthly installments similar to properly. These refinancing options normally have a term, or payback interval, of five to two decades and if a home is bought the excellent stability have to be paid off with results of the profit entrance.

A line of credit operates a little bit differently. The loan is a set fee but as opposed to the fixed rate supplying the debtor has the ability to make use of what on earth is basically your free account that holds the took out amount of money. It truly does work instant cash advance online like a charge card plus lots of instance a charge card or inspections are given to your debtor so as to take away cash as they demand it.

Most credit lines have adjustable mortgage rates which have been dependent upon the interest costs for the duration of thirty days the place that the cash was withdrawn. Therefore the payment amount may differ monthly which could in a negative way crm online the home owner?s spending budget. This have to be taken into consideration for any person considering receiving a line of credit home equity loan. The payment conditions are generally identical to the fixed rate promotions.

You?ll find lots of benefits to receiving a produced home equity loan offering forking over expenses, reducing higher fascination bills for instance charge cards, or doing small remodels. But in addition there are negatives that home owners need to pay attention to altogether different they find themselves in even worse financial condition then previous to they acquired the money.

One thing to take into account is the place prolonged you intend to keep at home. Taking in your pre-existing equity using a mortgage loan will place a serious damper on improving to some more high-priced property when you will likely not have enough cash to generate a considerable down payment. Should you use your property being a stepping-stone to some thing even larger as well as a home equity loan is not a good choice.

Another pitfall is definitely the amount of money to combine bills after which it ongoing exactly the same behavior that led to all the personal debt to start with. Some people start using these lending options to repay their charge cards and then use their greeting cards all over again. This routine is named personal debt reloading and previous to they are fully aware it they not simply have your finance cost but all the greeting card payments are back as well. Unless of course the owner of a house is seriously interested in getting debt relief getting such type of mortgage loan is an awful idea.

For that owner of a house who want to make small remodels an equity mortgage loan tends to make perception. The thing to look for is doing advancements that won?t add very much or any worth to your property. CORRECTED-UPDATE 1-EU seeks legal opinion on global ...

Wed Feb 22, 2012 1:38pm EST

(Clarifies ACTA role in 6th paragraph)

By Claire Davenport

BRUSSELS Feb 22 (Reuters) ? The European Union?s
executive said on Wednesday it would refer a disputed global
agreement to tackle online piracy to the bloc?s highest court to
check whether it complies with EU fundamental rights.

The Anti-Counterfeiting Trade Agreement, which also aims to
cut trademark theft, sparked protests across Europe this month
over fears of online censorship and increased surveillance.

EU members Germany, Slovakia, Estonia, Cyprus and the
Netherlands have refused to sign the agreement on the grounds
that it endangered freedom of speech and privacy. Poland,
Bulgaria, the Czech Republic and Latvia have expressed concerns
about the agreement?s impact.

?This morning, my fellow commissioners have discussed and
agreed in general with my proposal to refer the ACTA agreement
to the European Court of Justice,? EU trade chief Karel De Gucht
said.

?We are planning to ask Europe?s highest court to assess
ACTA?s compatibility with the EU?s fundamental rights and
freedoms, such as freedom of expression and information or that
of protection,? he told a regular news briefing.

Among other measures, ACTA asks Internet providers to
cooperate with national authorities to crackdown on online
piracy.

Since talks on ACTA began in Geneva in June 2008, Internet
lobbies and health campaigners have rallied against it, saying
that overly strict controls of copyright would exclude people
from the Internet and prevent developing countries from
accessing generic medicines.

The European Commission on Wednesday stood by its decision
to ratify ACTA, but said the plethora of complaints against the
agreement prompted its decision to refer it to the European
court.

?Intellectual property is Europe?s main raw material, but
the problem is that we currently struggle to protect it outside
the European Union. This hurts our companies, destroys jobs and
harms our economies,? De Gucht said. ?ACTA will not censor
websites or shut them down.?

The compression of generations ? 25 million adults live at home with ...

The thought of moving out on your own and making your individual way in the world is very much an American trait.? Certainly movies and television shows almost always assume every American has moved out on their own once adulthood is reached.? What this recession has taught us is never take anything for what is shown on the surface.? Many young adults, many times to the chagrin of baby boomer parents, have moved back home because of the employment market conditions brought on by the recession.? Roughly 25 million adults live at home with their parents for a variety of reasons but mostly economic.? For many the debilitating cost of student debt is hindering their progression into the independent marketplace.? For others it is the lack of solid wages that actually provide enough to support a person living on their own. ?And for many others the inability to find a job is still a very common experience.

Where have the young adults gone?

Without a doubt many young adults, those between the ages of 25 to 34 have moved back home (or never left home) because of the recession:

census age living at home

Source:? Census

Part of the trend is unmistakable in that much of the growth has come from men.? This is likely due to industries like construction taking a brutal hit once the housing market went bust.? However the trend has also occurred with females if we go back to the early 2000s.? There are a variety of reasons for this compression of generations.? This is common in other parts of the world but certainly is a new phenomenon here in the US.? In Italy it is common for men to live at home well into (and beyond) young adulthood but how well will this go in the US?

It doesn?t seem like much of this is by voluntary choice:

?(TIME) Nearly 25 million adults live at home with their parents because they?re unemployed or underemployed, they?re trying to pay off student loans or save money to buy a place, or for any number of other reasons. While calling mom and dad your ?roommates? may be a smart financial move, it?s the kiss of death for a healthy dating life. Trulia?s survey found that only 5% of unmarried adults would be open to dating someone who lived with their parents.?

This might also explain a massive slowdown in the first time homebuyer market since many purchase their first home between the ages of 25 to 34.? It is tricky to purchase a home when people are working low-wage jobs or simply not working at all.? The massive amount of student debt also hangs above many from moving into another major debt purchase.? As the above data highlights living with your parents might be good for your pocketbook but it might be difficult to woo a potential partner when living at home for many reasons.? Yet this also delays the need for a home since there is little need for larger spaces when you are single.? Without a doubt the trend of young adults living at home has increased:

living-at-home

The markets might be crying out at a recovery but for young adults, the recession is still in season.? A large part of this problem stems from the wicked maze that has become our higher education system.? Make a mistake today and you can be saddled with tens of thousands of dollars in debt for life with a paper mill degree.? Even two decades ago this was not possible.? Today with the financialization of college for-profits saddle students with enormous levels of debt but with a degree that yields very little in the marketplace.

?The crushing blow of college debt

In 1997-98 for-profits enrolled 3 percent of all undergraduates.? Today they are up to 9 percent.? What is more troubling is the disproportionate amount of federal aid these institutions draw:

for-profit-share

Source:? Chronicle of Higher Education

For-profits, although 9 percent of all undergraduate enrollments eat up 22 percent of all? unsubsidized Stafford Loans and 21 percent of all Pell Grants.? With for-profits now enrolling close to 2,000,000 students you have a large number of young adults with degrees that will not likely yield a solid return on their investment (if any at all aside from a large debt load).

If students from competitive schools are having a hard time finding suitable employment what of those that went to these schools?? It seems like many are catching on but not before nationally student loan debt races to the $1 trillion mark.

The trend for automation

Self-checkout stands, self-serve kiosks, and other items of automation are part of our modern day economy.? But you can rest assured that they are not creating much in the way of jobs:

??(TIME) It?ll be interesting to see what Coinstar and other businesses try to sell via vending machines during the test stage. Sneakers? Jewelry? A home mortgage? An entire dinner in a pill, like something out of ?The Jetsons?? Who knows.

Here?s one thing we can be pretty sure of, though: The spread of vending machines is unlikely to do much in the way of creating jobs.?

This is a trend that seems unstoppable.? For those with few skills the manual labor positions are being automated out.? Think of Redbox for example.? This is a boom sector for Coinstar but each one of the 28,000 kiosks does very little in adding a job.? Today there are 28,000 Redbox locations with revenues of $774 million.? Not bad but will these add many jobs?? That seems to be the conundrum of our modern economy.

The current economy and the recent recession have been particularly rough on young adults.? Many are moving back home with parents and this trend seems to be holding strong.? With the cost of college soaring and stagnant wages, the money will have to come from somewhere.

Hypnosis: Will it work for me? | Articles Bright

It?s fair to say that hypnosis has its believers and non-believers just like many forms of complimentary therapy. But this is where people are going wrong because by starting hypnotherapy as a non-believer, they are already sabotaging their treatment. This is because, for the most part, hypnosis works by the person being willing to let the process work.

Hypnosis, in the most simplest of terms, works by sending the person into a trance from when then the subconscious part of the brain becomes more receptive. Because hypnosis is used to change the conscious and therefore rational thought processes, it can be used to treat a range of habits and aid psychological problems, including smoking, dieting, fears and stress.

Therefore, in order to be treated, the realistic goals of the hypnotherapy have to be established before therapy begins. For example, curing cancer via hypnosis isn?t possible, but reducing stress and anxiety levels can potentially improve the healing process. Equally, hypnotherapy can?t find you new friends, but it can install self-confidence to make you go out there and make them yourself. You get the picture.

By being unwilling to let the results happen, the person is actually creating a catch-22 situation, because it is the person?s willingness to participate that really shows results, e.g. that they really want to give up smoking and aren?t just looking for a quick cure. Hypnotherapy?s success isn?t down to how good a hypnotist is, but in fact down to the one being hypnotised because essentially the hypnotist is a facilitator, and the patient the one who decides whether or not they succeed.

It?s all too easy for us to pass judgement on whether hypnosis works or not, but the facts speak for themselves. Of course hypnosis isn?t 100% successful, no type of therapy of treatment ever is, but having been used since the times of Ancient Egypt, it can?t be denied that it hasn?t worked for many thousands, if not millions or more, people.
